Basic Skincare Routine (for starters)!

When should you start skincare routine?

According to a Taiwanese skincare guru, Kevin 老师 who has appeared on 女人我最大 (a famous beauty program in Taiwan), it should be the moment you start experiencing stress and pressures in life. That would be my schooling period in secondary school? The overwhelming stress built up from o-levels and the countless sleepless nights spent preparing for it... But being an ordinary secondary school girl, I wasn't informed of that. O' well~

STAGE 1: Determine your skin type
Basically, there are a few skin types: Dry skin/Oily skin/Combination skin (dry cheeks, oily T-zone area). T-zone area refers to your forehead and nose. Watch the two videos below to find out which is your skin type:

I belong to the dry skin category, unfortunately and fortunately. I guess owing to my dry skin, I was safe from massive acne breakouts during puberty. However, dry skin peeps are very prone to early signs of aging... *sad face* SO! Dry-skinners, we have to do prevention from young!

STAGE 2: Selecting the right products
Usually, when you grab facial products off the shelves, the products would state whether they are suitable for dry-skin/oily-skin/normal-skin. Dry-skinners usually use more moisturizing products whereas oily-skinners would usually have to use pore-cleaning products (such as with exfoliating beads or pore-reducing effects).

In addition, depending on the country/place you're residing in, the skincare products you use and routine you practise might need to be adjusted accordingly. In a crazily humid and sunny island like Singapore, we can't slap too many layers on our face because they tend to clog the pores.

When I first started out, I used products from Simple. The moisturiser felt a little thick in my opinion so perhaps you could just rub them evenly on your palms before patting them on your face. I haven't tried that many products to be able to give much advice. Keep trying for products suitable for you. For myself, I would usually finish the whole product before deciding if they suit me since certain products will take around 2-6months for the results to show.

STAGE 3: Start! And be consistent!

This is my recommended BASIC routine for beginners/young people:

Hope it helps!
